Magazine Archive Yahoo Group - Part II

Scanta comes early to the magazine archive. Here's my entire backlog from my "to post" folder- descriptions will probably be brief, busy, busy, busy, 1-2-3-GO,GO,GO!!

Army Romances v02n01 (1946) (D&M). I got my hands on a title (along with Navy Romances) that I've been very curious about. Digest-sized and saddle-stiched, this is likely the most poorly printed
publication I've ever had the pleasure to scan. The font borders on being illegible in some places and it was cut so that parts of the text actually crossed the staple line, but McCoy's done a nice job of editing it so that it might be more easily read. I'm not sure if there were other titles from this
publisher besides Navy Romances, but it looks like all the activity for the publisher was probably in 1945-1946. The cover is from Warren King who later did a couple of nice romance covers for Archer St. John on the oddball title Adventures (in Romance). I haven't read any of the stories yet, but I plan to do so in the vain hope that the fiction is better than the production ;) Big thanks to McCoy for fixing the issue up.

Collector's Classics Replica Gun Models Catalog (1976) (ABPVM). All scans marked ABPVM come form the newsgroup and I don't know individual scanner info, so big thanks to those guys for all scans marked thusly. My 7 year old loves this scan. He says he wants to be a policeman so he can always carry a gun. The flower-child in me weeps, but hey this catalog *is* pretty cool...

Crawdaddy (1978-01)(D&M). I think of this title as a music mag, but it looks like it might have morphed over time into more of a general interest pub. We needed a representative ish, and I bought this one because I know McCoy is all about the Nuge. The theater meets P-Funk, Abbie Hoffman goes to Mexico, Dan Akroyd on motorcycles, and more. Thanks to McCoy for the rockin edit.

Doc Savage Giant Colour Poster (Top Sellers, 1975) fixed - now with poster (ABPVM). I bet some of you old-timers had this one on your wall. Hell, knowing some of you guys, you might still have it on your wall.

Dream World v02n02 (1924-09.MacFadden)(D&M-DPP). I've got a series of blog posts I hope to do in the not too distant future on the early 20s MacFadden mags, so we'll be seeing more. Following on the massive commercial success of True Story, MacFadden decided to expand that formula into other areas. This magazine seems to meld confession, romance, and fiction fairly cohesively. Is it a pulp? Is it a true story mag? Hard to tell with some of these earlier pubs. Featuring a story from John Coryell, writer of the Nick Carter detective stories. In this same year, MacFadden started True Detective. A beautiful batch of the earliest ones recently came up on ebay, and I thought I was going to score a super-early appearance of Dashiell Hammett in an ish from the first year, but somebody else snatched it from me. At least I got my hands on a different ish from the same year. Photo-illustrated and with nice production values. Thanks to McCoy for the dreamy edit.

The centerfold shows a comeback bout from Gorgeous George wherein the loser is forced to shave bald (Vince borrowed that bit a while ago). Another slamming edit from McCoy.
