Magazine Archive Yahoo Group - Part V

Hello magazine lovers,

It's been a little while and neither McCoy or myself have been terribly on it lately, but here's the goods.

Four issues of Trouser Press from the early 80s, the beginning of the end?! When I visit my hometown of Lawrence, KS, these days, I see a lot of kids dressing retro to the period, all Suddenly Susan and Pretty in Pink. Gag me with a dog biscuit, nyuk, nyuk. An interesting period in pop music history, though, and here's some artifacts. Some of the feature articles are pretty good, there's plenty of bands that you've surely forgotten about by now, and I particularly like the reviews sections. All of these are my scans with edits from 80s survivor, McCoy.

Trouser Press v10n02 (1983-04) The Clash, along with The Talking Heads, a favorite from the era. I just watched Julian Temple's move on Joe Strummer and enjoyed it very much.

Trouser Press v10n04 (1983-06) Boy George. A nice Black Flag article in here. I put Slip It In on my workout Ipod for some nostalgia after reading this and found I still enjoy.

And a couple of issues of Hit! from McCoy, the first is typical of a wartime pin-up in format and content whereas the second issue is a bit more wild and wooly, girl-heavy and in the vein of 50s cheesecake/tabloid materials. I'm not sure if Lopez still owned the mag at that time or not.

And a couple more in the girlie vein, only, err, a bit more revealing. Both my scans with Monsieur McCoy's edits.
Fling 011 (1959.Relim). Mag descriptions cut and paste from where I put em up at vintagegirliemags.com. I'd hoped some more scanners would have popped up at that site by now, but no dice. It's a sweet set-up, but it could use more action!

Wrestling Revue v08n04 (1967-03.Champion Sports)(D vs M). I picked this one up for the Sputnik Monroe article. I just completed an extended post yesterday on Monroe, a carnival fighter from Kansas that became an unlikely hero in the struggle to integrate Memphis. Check it out:

And today's last scan, from McCoy.
The National Police Gazette v168n10 (1963-10) . Man I love these. Women spies use sex to extract our secrets!, Joanne Woodward, Mickey Mantle, a lemon?, Emile Griffith, today's most wanted war criminal. Also an article on the dangers of fluoride. I guess just recently municipalities have begun to reduce the amount in drinking water though people have pointed out the dangers for years.
